Questions from past CET papers (51 to 60):

Directions (Q.51 to Q.55) Study the following information carefully and answer the questions given below it

P, Q, R, S, T, V and W are sitting around a circle facing the centre. R is second to the right of T who is third to the right of P. S is third to the left of P and second to the right of V. Q is not an immediate neighbor of R.

51. Who is to the immediate right of S?

(a) W            (b) R             (c) T             (d) Data inadequate                   (e) None of these

52. Who is second to the right of W?

(a) P             (b) V             (c) Q             (d) Data inadequate                   (e) None of these

53. What is T’s position with respect to W?

(a) Fourth to the left        (b) Second to the left        (c) Fifth to the left  (d) Third to the left (e) Fifth to the right

54. Who is to the immediate left of Q?

(a) P             (b) W            (c) V             (d) T             (e) Data inadequate

55. In which of the following combinations is the third person sitting between the first and the second person?

(a) SRW       (b) VTS        (c) QVP        (d) WPR        (e) VST

Solution: Start with T, R is second to the right of T and P is third to the left of T. S will be between R and T. As Q is not R’s neighbor, W will occupy that position. Considering this, we will get the following arrangement:

Logical Reasoning

56. What approximate value should come in place of the question mark in the following question?

312 × 55 + 216 × 39 = ?

(a) 28400     (b) 18500     (c) 20600      (d) 22500     (e) 25600

Solution: As one needs to find the approximate value, without getting into actual calculation, 312*55 will be close to 17000 and 216*39 will be close to 8000. Hence, answer will be close to 25000. Answer: 25600

57. What should come in place of the question mark in the following question?

218 + (676)^1/2 × 25 = (?)^1/2 × 108.5

(a) 64           (b) 8             (c) 25           (d) 16           (e) None of these

Solution: square root of 676 is 26 and 26*25 = 650 + 218 = 868. 108.5*8 = 868 and square of 8 will give you the answer. Answer: 64

58. What should come in place of the question mark in the following question?

40% of 2600 + 35% of 2800 = ? of 4040

(a) 100         (b) 50           (c) 40           (d) 60           (e) 80

Solution: 40* of 2600 = 1040 and 35% of 2800 is 980. Sum of these = 2020 which is 50% of 4040. Answer: 50

59. What approximate value should come in place of the question mark in the following question?

25.14 × 14.46 – 5/6 of 31.25 = ?% of 8904.69

(a) 13           (b) 11           (c) 9             (d) 3             (e) 7

Solution: 25.14*14.46 is approximately 365 and 5/6 of 31.25 will be around 26 which gives us 339 which can be approximated to 340. 340/8900 is around 3%. Answer: 3

60. What approximate value should come in place of the question mark in the following question?

5.5 + 2/3 of 569 = 24.16 × ?

(a) 12           (b) 18           (c) 16           (d) 20           (e) 22

Solution: 5.5 + 380 is around 385. 385/25 = 15.something. Answer: 16
