Questions from past MBA CET papers (41 to 50):

41. D4, F6, H8, J10, ?

(a) K12         (b) M14        (c) L12         (d) M13        (e) None of these

Solution: Letters and numbers are increasing by +2 with every step. Answer: L12

42. 3F, 6G, 11I, 18L, ?

(a) 21O        (b) 25N         (c) 27P         (d) 27Q        (e) None of these

Solution: F + 1 = G + 2 = I + 3 = L + 4 = P. The numbers increase by 3, 5, 7 and the next increase will be 9 to get 27. Answer: 27P

43. A, G, L, P, S, ?

(a) U            (b) W            (c) X             (d) Y             (e) None of these

Solution: Considering positions of these letters, we get: 1, 7, 12, 16, 19. The difference keeps getting reduced by 1 (6, 5, 4, 3) in successive jumps. Hence, after 19, we will get 19 + 2 = 21. Answer: U

44. AJ, BJ, CK, ?

(a) DW                   (b) DM                   (c) GH           (d) DN           (e) None of these

Solution: The first letter will be D (A, B, C, D). For the second place, the logic can be J + 0 = J, J + 1 = K, K + 2 = M. Answer: DM

45. 6, 11, 21, 36, 56, ?

(a) 42           (b) 51           (c) 81           (d) 91           (e) None of these

Solution: 6 + 5 = 11 + 10 = 21 + 15 = 36 + 20 = 56 + 25 = 81. Answer: 81

46. 1, 9, 17, 33, 49, 73, ?

(a) 97           (b) 98           (c) 99           (d) 100         (e) None of these

Solution: 1 + 8 = 9 + 8 = 17 + 16 = 33 + 16 = 49 + 24 = 73 + 24 = 97. Answer: 97

47. 2A11, 4D13, 12G17, ?

(a) 36J21     (b) 48J21     (c) 36J19      (d) 48J23     (e) None of these

Solution: 2*2 = 4, 4*3 = 12, 12*4 = 48. The second number will be 11 + 2 = 13 + 4 = 17 + 6 = 23. In the middle, you have A (1), D (4), G (7). The next will be 10 (J). Answer: 48J23

P.S. The second number can be 19 as 11, 13, 17 are prime numbers making the answer none of these

48. 44, 40, 34, ?, 16, 4

(a) 26           (b) 21           (c) 28           (d) 19           (e) None of these

Solution: 44 – 4 = 40, 40 – 6 = 34, 34 – 8 = 26, 26 – 10 = 16, 16 – 12 = 4. Answer: 26

49. What will come in place of (c)?

12      7        8.5     14.75 32      83
22    (a)      (b)      (c)      (d)      (e)

(a) 18.5        (b) 25           (c) 22.25      (d) 16           (e) None of these

Solution: A complex question, indeed. In exam condition, leave such questions if you can’t crack in 30-45 seconds. The logic being:

12/2 = 6, 6*1 = 6, 6 + 1 = 7
7/2 = 3.5, 3.5*2 = 7, 7 + 1.5 = 8.5
8.5/2 = 4.25, 4.25*3 = 12.75, 12.75 + 2 = 14.75

Hence, starting at 22, we get:

22/2 = 11, 11*1 = 11, 11 + 1 = 12
12/2 = 6, 6*2 = 12, 12 + 1.5 = 13.5
13.5/2 = 6.75, 6.75*3 = 20.25, 20.25 + 2 = 22.25

Answer: 22.25

50. What will come in place of (d)?

897    681    556    492    465    457
815    (a)      (b)      (c)      (d)      (e)

(a) 367         (b) 375         (c) 364         (d) 383         (e) None of these

Solution: 897 – 216 = 681 – 125 = 556 – 64 = 492 – 27 = 465 – 8 = 457 (Cubes getting subtracted at successive steps. (897 – 465) = 432. 815 – 432 = 383
