Solutions:
1. Option b is correct. We come to know the ratio of the two areas and so, can get the ratio of their radii too.
2. 702800 = 7*2*2*2*2*25*251. So, we can see that there cannot be 7 consecutive integers whose product is 702800 and so, statement 1 is insufficient. Using statement 2 we can easily figure out that the middle number is 15. Option b.
3. Statement a is sufficient to get the value of P. Statement b is not sufficient as we cannot get a unique value. Option a.
4. As we do not know the depth, we cannot find the number of ice cubes that can be fit. Option d.
5. Statement b is sufficient. Option b.
6. 10 crores or 1000 lakhs. Option a.
7. Voveran is 16 to 23, Volini is 7 to 9, Dolonex is 6 to 10, and Sumo is 5 to 7. Option c is the highest.
8. Moov is 4 to 5 and Nise is 15 to 18. Option d is the least.
9. Voveran increased from 16 to 23 and so, the increase is by 7/16 or slightly less than 45%. Option c is the closest. Remember that in these types, it is extremely difficult to go for exact values and so, approximation helps a lot.
10. Option a is correct.
11. ½ * ¼ * 1/10 * 400 = 5. Option b.
12. We have to find the area of the two triangles. We know that the base of these triangles will be equal to the sides of the square which is, say 2x units. So, angles APH and DPH will be equal to 60 degrees and so, sum of the areas of the two triangles will be 2x * x/√3. Now, we can easily find the area of the polygon by subtracting the area of the triangles from 4x^2. We will get (4x^2 – 2x^2/√3)/(2x^2/√3) = 2√3 – 1. Option b.
13. 85 + 0.15n = 110. So, n = 166.67. So, 31+28+31+30+31+16.67 and hence, June 16. The question is not exactly great and there was probably an error while ‘lifting’ this from the CAT 2007 paper. Option b.
14. Simply looking at the options, we can see that option a is the only one that satisfies. But, we also have cases such as x = -1/5 when it satisfies the given inequality and so, none of the options give the proper range. Option d.
15. (24 + 0.3x)/(40 + x) = ½
48 + 0.6x = 40 + x
x = 20. Option b.
