CAT

About

CAT is a management aptitude test conducted by the IIMs primarily to evaluate and shortlist candidates for the post graduate programme. This test scores a person on the bases of quantitative ability, data interpretation, verbal ability and logical reasoning.

Exam format

Quantitative Aptitude (QA) – 34 questions
Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR) – 32 questions
Verbal and Reading Comprehension (VRC) – 34 questions

The total duration for the exam is 180 minutes. Candidates are not allowed to switch between sections. Candidates will be allowed to use basic on screen calculator for calculation.

CAT is conducted in two sessions. Two different Test Forms are administered in two Test Sessions. In order to ensure fairness and equity in comparison of performances of the candidates across different test sessions, the scores of the candidates are subjected to a process of Normalization.

XAT

About

XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test) is conducted by XLRI – Xavier School of Management, Jamshedpur. XLRI conducts XAT on behalf of the XAMI. For more than 60 years XLRI is conducting XAT at all India level to select the most appropriate students for management education. The XAT score is being used by more than 100 institutes for the admission. After applying for XAT, candidates can also apply to other member colleges, which use XAT scores for their respective admissions.

Exam format

XAT consists of four sections (i) Verbal and Logical Ability (ii) Decision Making (iii) Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation (iv) General Knowledge. The marks of General Knowledge are not used to determine the percentile and cut off at first stage of selection for most of the institutes.

The time available for completing the three sections is 140 minutes without any sectional limit.

XAT is a pen-paper based test. The paper-pen mode also ensures that all candidates are tested on exactly the same set of questions, and not on different sets.

IIFT (Test) is conducted by Indian Institute of Foreign Trade to shortlist candidates for MBA (IB), a six trimester general management programme with a focus on international business. The MBA (International Business) is a foundational course for developing a competent cadre of business executives to meet the country’s growing requirements for training personnel in the field of international management.

The admission test is a multiple choice objective type written test. Duration of the test is two hours. It consists of questions covering Language comprehension, General knowledge and awareness, logical reasoning and quantitative analysis.

SNAP

About

Since 2007, candidates aspiring to join MBA programs offered by institutes of Symbiosis International University have to take the common, mandatory Symbiosis National Aptitude (SNAP) Test. A candidate used to register for SNAP Test & then register with the institutes offering his/ her choice of program by paying separate institution registration fees. If shortlisted, he/she would then attend the GE-PIWAT process conducted by each of these institutes.

NMAT

About

NMAT is the entrance test conducted by Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai. This test is the first part of the process for admission to the various programs offered by NMIMS at their Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad campuses. There are a few other b-schools too that consider the NMAT score while shortlisting candidates for their further rounds.

Exam format

The NMAT by exam is computer-delivered and gives each candidate a randomly generated test from a pool of questions, delivered one-at-a-time. The number of questions, difficulty levels, and the time limit for each of the sections is predetermined and, under normal administration conditions, are the same regardless of when and where the test is administered. Candidates have a choice of selecting the order/sequence of the test sections. The NMAT by exam has three sections – Language Skills, Quantitative Skills and Logical Reasoning. The three sections of the NMAT are individually timed. Test takers must answer questions and review answers of each section within the allotted time. Test takers must review their answers before moving to another section of the exam, as once the candidate closes out of a section, all answers are final.

The time and marks split is as follows:
Language Skills: 32 questions (22 minutes)
Quantitative Skills: 48 questions (60 minutes)
Logical Reasoning: 40 questions (38 minutes)
Total: 120 questions (120 minutes)

TISS NET

About

TISS NET is the entrance test conducted by Tata Institute of Social Sciences for admission to their 2 year MA programmes. While the Human Resources Management and Labour Relations programme is considered the flagship programme, the institute also offers an MA in various other fields.

Exam format

TISSNET duration is 1 hour and 40 minutes. The objective test consists of 100 questions related to General Knowledge; Analytical Ability, Logical Reasoning; and English Proficiency. TISS NET does not have negative marking.

MICAT

About

MICAT is a computer based test conducted for admission to the PGDM in Communications programme by the Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad. The test forms the second stage of the process and the candidate has to appear for either CAT 2015, XAT 2016 or GMAT (post 2012) to be eligible for the process.

Exam format

MICA admission test, MICAT 2016 will be a multidimensional computer based examination, which will assess candidates in areas such as Divergent Thinking Abilities, Written Communication Abilities, General Awareness about contemporary social and business issues, including areas relevant to media, marketing, advertising & current affairs and Analytical & Verbal Abilities.

The Admission test also includes psychometric profiling to assess the candidate’s leadership potential.

IBSAT

About

The test is conducted for admission to MBA/PGPM program at IBS Ahmedabad, IBS Bengaluru, IBS Gurgaon, IBS Hyderabad, IBS Dehradun, IBS Jaipur, IBS Kolkata, IBS Mumbai and IBS Pune campuses and PhD program (full-time/part time) at IBS Hyderabad campus.

Exam format

IBSAT is a Computer Based Test (CBT) and consists of multiple choice questions. IBSAT is of 2 hours duration and is aimed at testing the applicant’s ability in quantitative techniques, data interpretation, data adequacy, vocabulary, analytical reasoning and reading comprehension.

GMAT scores (from 2013 onwards), NMAT by GMAC 2015 and CAT 2015 scores are also accepted in place of IBSAT 2015. Candidates with GMAT, NMAT by GMAC or CAT scores are exempted from IBSAT 2015.
